Easter Bible lessons and worksheets for kids (Grades 1–3)
Easter is one of the most important celebrations in the Christian faith. It is a joyful time when Christians remember that Jesus rose from the dead and showed the world the power of God’s love.
For children in first grade, second grade, and third grade, easter is a wonderful opportunity to learn Bible stories, learn about meaningful symbols, and understand why this holiday is so special.
This simple easter Bible lesson introduces the easter story, important Bible verses, and key Christian symbols in a way that young children can easily understand.
What is easter?
Easter is the day Christians celebrate that Jesus Christ rose from the dead. Easter reminds us that God loves every person, that Jesus sacrificed Himself to forgive sins, and that Jesus is alive and brings hope to the world.
Because of this message, easter is often called the most joyful day in the Christian calendar.
The easter story for kids
The easter story takes place over several important days. Here is a simple version that children can understand.
Palm sunday
The easter story begins when Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem riding on a donkey. People welcomed Him by waving palm branches and shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!”
The last supper
A few days later, Jesus shared a special meal with His twelve disciples. During this meal, Jesus broke bread and shared wine. He told His disciples to remember Him whenever they shared this meal together.
Good friday
On Good Friday, Jesus was crucified on a wooden cross. Christians believe Jesus chose to give His life to forgive the sins of the world. Even though this was a sad moment, it showed the greatest act of love.
Easter Sunday
Three days later, something amazing happened. When people went to Jesus’ tomb, they discovered that the stone had been rolled away and the tomb was empty.
An angel told them, “He is not here; He has risen!” (Luke 24:6)
Jesus had risen from the dead. This miracle is what Christians celebrate on easter.

Important easter Bible verses for kids
There are many Bible verses that help children understand the message of easter.
John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son.” This verse reminds us that God loves everyone very much.
Luke 24:6 says, “He is not here; He has risen!” These words were spoken by an angel when people came to the empty tomb.
Romans 5:8 says, “God shows His love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” This verse teaches that Jesus’ sacrifice was an act of love.
Questions for kids to think about
After reading the easter story, children can think about a few simple questions such as: Why do Christians celebrate easter? What happened on easter Sunday? What does the cross remind us of? What does the empty tomb show us?
Talking about these questions helps children understand the meaning of the easter story.
Why easter is a message of hope
The easter story teaches children an important lesson: love, hope, and forgiveness are stronger than fear and sadness.
